MUHAMMADU BUHARI AND THE SQUANDERING OF GOODWILL

MUHAMMADU BUHARI AND THE SQUANDERING OF GOODWILL!
I have never met our President, Muhammadu Buhari. I have never received any favour of any type from him or anyone associated with him: not the promise of the famous oil block, not a contract, not an employment… nothing! I have written in this column before that I am not sure that Muhammadu Buhari even knows that I exist. To be clear, I have never been a member of any of Nigeria's motley power contraptions called political parties.

NO GREAT NATION IS BUILT BY COWARDS

I was at the book launch of my good friend, Dele Momodu, during the week. The conference hall of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island was packed to the brim with Nigerian politicians, businessmen, media personalities and the Glitterati.
Speech after speech, there was no way to hide the fact that the Nigerian people are exhausted, lost and wondering how we got here. And this has nothing to do with whether you are rich or poor, everyone is wondering what is going on.
The event was themed after the late MKO Abiola with whom Dele and I had very close relationships.

ONE MAN ONE VOTE AND THE WORLD IN BIG TROUBLE

The entire democracy project hangs on an intriguing concept: all men are born equal. In other words, the great Aliko Dangote with his zillions of Naira, many trucks and thousands of employees has the same voting power as his cook. In a democracy, the opinion of a Bill Gates whose intellect created the incredible Microsoft software that drives almost all of human activities has the same weight as his janitor. A Barack Obama with his political sagacity and deep experience in world affairs casts one vote and that vote is in no way superior to that of a homeless man begging for coins in front of Washington DC’s Union Station.
